Essential Question: How can adding pictures to a Word Document influence the overall impact of your document?
Purpose: Editing Word documents is crucial in understanding key elements of Desktop Publishing. Being able to successfully utilize features of Microsoft Word will enable you to maximize your word processing and creative productivity.
Teacher Demonstration:
Student Activity: Insert your profile pictures with your 'Student Profile'
1. Download the above link and change the name of the file to match your information.
2. Save it within an new folder on the H Drive (Lawton's Server) called: "Student Profile''
3. Open the document from the folder and begin to insert the pictures you have previouly downloaded into the word document.
4. Type a short description of your picture.
5. Save your progress and when finished submit the file to me as an attachment via LoopMail. Please title the subject: Student Profile

Profile Pics
Essential Question: Are there pictures on the Internet that you can match-up with your interests, beliefs, thoughts, appearance, and other things that relate to you?
Purpose: The process of downloading pictures from the Web is a very useful skill. Once downloaded, the pictures can be used for a variety of applications.
Teacher Demonstration:
1. Make a new folder within My Documents called "Profile Pics"
2. Use Google Image Search
3. Isolate (get image by itself) the picture
4. Right-Click and choose to 'Save Picture As'
5. Save within "Profile Pics"
Student Activity: Download pictures for the following topics:
1. Favorite Time of the Day
2. Favorite Color
3. Favorite Sport
4. Favorite School Subject
5. Something You're Proud Of
6. The City Which You Were Born
7. Something That Makes You Laugh
8. Favorite Food
9. Favorite Animal
10. The Singer or Group of Your Favorite Song
11. Favorite TV show
12. Favorite Book
13. Favorite Magazine
14. You Favorite Online Game
15. Your Classroom Number
When you are finished, create a window capture (ALT + PRT SCRN), and submit the .JPG titled: "Number_Name_ProfilePics" to my School Loop Account.

Comix - Cyberbullying Problem and Resolution
Purpose: To explore possible scenarios of problems and solutions with digital media.
Teacher Demo: Today we are digital superheroes that have witnessed an act of poor digital citizenship. The cartoon should show the problem and how the superhero helps resolve it.
Student Activity:
1. Log on to http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/Comix/ and make a comic about a scenario faced with digital media, there should be a problem and solution: examples include: (1) a rumor gets out of hand online, (2) someone’s embarrassing information goes public on the Internet, (3) someone cheats another person out of points in an online game, (4) someone takes information for a paper that another student has posted on a class wiki.
2. When finished click the "next" arrow and do a screen capture: PRNT SCRN
3. Edit the picture in Paint and reveal only the comic.
4. Save it as: “FirstName_MyDigitalComix” make sure to change it as .JPG
5. Submit the .JPG to me via LoopMail

Screen Capture
Essential Question: Is it possible to take a picture of the computer screen at anytime? If so, what are some ways you could find this useful?
Purpose: For most assignments, I will ask you to do a screen shot, or screen capture (they're the same) of your work. With this screen capture, you can prove to me that you have completed the given task. Most importantly, we can share and view these screen captures to gain feedback on assignments.
Teacher Demonstration:
Student Activity: Place Micorsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Paint in the Start Menu
1. Click on the Start Button > All Programs > Microsoft Office.
2. Right Click on Microsoft Office and Choose 'Pin to Start Menu'
3. Repeat this process for PowerPoint and Paint. The Path to Paint is: Start > All Programs > Accessories> Paint.
4. Once all three are viewable within the Start Menu, complete a Screen Capture of the Start Menu (PRT SCRN).
5. Open Paint and paste the Screen Capture (CTRL + V)
6. Move and edit the screen capture in Paint to have only the Start Menu visible. Be sure to scroll down and right to reveal the resize points.
7. Save the Image as a .JPG and please name it: 'FirstNameStartMenu' in My Documents
8. Save the file as a .JPG NOT .BMP.
8. Submit the .JPG as an attachment in LoopMail with the Subject: 'Start Menu'

Essay Correction
Objective: Students will fix grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors as they add more sentences to the text. By the end of the exercise, the students should create a well prepared essay that
demonstrates their abilities to navigate and manipulate several features of Microsoft Word.
Teacher will: demonstrate lesson and give a full explanation of expectations.
Students will: give their attention while teacher explains the purpose and process of the lesson and ask clarifying questions, if necessary.
Procedure:
- Click here to download the .doc file to your computer.
- Choose "Save" then rename and save the file on your desktop.
- Choose "Open File" to begin editing the .doc in Word.
- Proofread the document and correct any errors you encounter.
- For the highlighted text, input your sentences and remove the highlights.
- Align "Your Name" and "Date" along the right side of the paper.
- Align the title and author along the center.
- Before printing, please have an adult double check your work.
- When you have been cleared, you may print to the "HP Laserjet 5si"
- When finished, you should submit your assignment via School Loop Mail as an attachment.
